You’d never know from their UK operation that Suzuki was one of the world’s biggest companies. With a couple of exceptions, the Suzukis sold here are all long-established models that sell to a particular and quite conservative market. The Jimny is a good example of a well-proven Suzuki design, but its convertible appeal gives it a determined and loyal following, and it’s actually quite capable off-road.
The case for the less focused SX4 SUV and Ignis estate is that they are decently equipped, predictably reliable and very temptingly priced secondhand, even by dealers – in fact, very few used SX4s are on sale outside the trade. The Grand Vitara 3- or 5-door SUV has just been nicely refreshed, and that’s chipped a big chunk off the values of its previously solid predecessor. Star of the Suzuki range is without question the genuinely excellent Swift. Even in non-Sport guise it offers a vibrant drive and a tightness of construction which bodes well for long-term ownership
