One of Britain’s most enduringly popular marques, Peugeot has made big strides on quality and safety in the last few years. Enthusiasts perhaps aren’t quite so well catered for these days but there’s no disputing the family-friendliness of today’s range, packed as it is with hatchbacks and estates.
The sheer number of models in the range has led to confusion about the value of one model over another. That, plus regular special offers on new car prices, is all to the benefit of the used buyer
Heartland model is the new 308, but its predecessor the 307 is still available with huge reductions on the new price: it’s an obvious target for the smart used buyer. So is the 206, also still on sale new even though it too has been superseded by the 207. Big, comfortable Peugeots like the 407 and especially the 607 saloon struggle to hold their value. The French firm’s reputation for excellent diesels is well deserved, but the carefree 1.0-litre petrol engine in the smaller Peugeots (107 city car and 206) has plenty of basic appeal
